Ginny Schofield and Helen Tickner receive the Charlie Cook Volunteer of the Year Award
Main Line Meals on Wheels once again honored its volunteers at the annual Volunteer Appreciation Luncheon on May 6, 2009.  The event was held at Christ Church Ithan in Villanova.  More than eighty volunteers participated.

President Ron Harmon conducted the annual business meeting.  Officers for the upcoming year will be Ron Harmon, President; Jaci Menard, Vice President; Cynthia Mack, Recording Secretary; Mary Powers, Corresponding Secretary and Russell Hanscom, Treasurer.

Ron thanked outgoing Board Members Bill Epp and Tara Off.  He announced that Norma Bolden would be starting a three-year term on the Board.

Ron thanked all the volunteers for the time, effort and gasoline they provide, the backbone of our meals on wheels program.  He also thanked them for making financial contributions as well, which have kept the program running, especially in these economically difficult times.

President Harmon announced this year's recipients of the Charlie Cook Volunteer of the Year Award:  Ginny Schofield and Helen Tickner.  They currently team up to do Devon's Route 4 every Tuesday.  Ginny has been a volunteer since the beginnings of the program, and at one time served on the Board.  Helen is also a long-time volunteer.  Their husbands were also present at the luncheon, very fitting as sometimes they would fill in when one of the women could not do the route.  Ron presented plaques to Ginny and Helen, and their names have been added to the big plaque that hangs in our office.  Ron recognized past winners who were present, Dot Wolff and Helen Warner.  He also acknowleged Jim Hopkinson, long-time Treasurer, who recently passed away.

A special appreciation plaque was also presented to the Newcomers Club of the Upper Main Line.  Marci Richter, President, and also a Meals on Wheels Board member, accepted on behalf of the organization.  For many years the club has provided volunteers regularly for routes at both our locations.  In addition, the Club has helped Meals on Wheels with financial contributions.  Many others besides Marci have served on the Board and as officers, including former President Marda Schropp.

Following the meeting, our volunteers were treated to special entertainment provided by "Singing for Life," a chorus from Bryn Mawr Presbyterian Church that is composed of seniors, some of whom are also Meals on Wheels volunteers.  Brant Rudisill was thanked for setting this up.

Here are some more photos from the luncheon.
